Intuitive and ardent, Michelle Piaggio's are born not of the influences and constraints of tradition and theory, but of most basic instinc to create and to bring into being visions from unconscious. In spontaneous, primitive style of drawing, Piaggio marks the canvas with symbols from an inscrutable language: she paints "whith no historical references, images, signs or any pre-known symbolisms", she says. In hieroglyphic-like drawings and thickly painted, brilliant reds and deep earth tones, Piaggio uses and alternating palette of lush, fervid colors and natural, subdued hues. Piaggio´s expressionistic mixed media works recall the art of ancient eras while presenting a raw exciting vision composed of rich texture in Latin America.
